COLLABORATION WINS FRAN BYRNE REGATTA

 

(Sunday, AugTsunami and Collaboration going upwindust 5, 2007) In the most wind the Chicago Beneteau 40.7 Fleet has seen all year in any buoy event, Collaboration, skippered by Bob Vickery, and with what Bob described as a “light crew of eight”, won the two-race Fran Byrne Regatta with race finishes of 3rd and 1st. Ryan Weber drives LaTempete past the Mackinac bridge[Tuesday, July 17, 2007, Mackinac Island, Michigan] After completing what was one of the slowest races in recent years from Chicago to Mackinac Island, Jim McDonnell's winning Beneteau 40.7, Spanker, crossed the finish line at 2:51 AM today after a 61 hour 31 minutes adventure. Bob Vickery's Collaboration finished in 2nd place over an hour behind Spanker. TSUNAMI WINS MAYOR DALEY REGATTA

COLLABORATION AND VAYU ARE 2nd and 3rd IN TEN BOAT 40.7 SECTION Vayu going downwind

(Saturday, July 7, 2007) With ten Beneteau 40.7’s participating in Columbia Yacht Club’s Mayor Daley Regatta on Lake Michigan, Don Hayes’ Tsunami won the day with a 1st place in the first race and a 2nd place in the second race. Bob Vickery’s Collaboration finished overall in 2nd place with 4th and 1st place finishes. Vayu, skippered by Ron Buzil, finished in 3rd place with 2nd and 4th place finishes.

The venerable La Tempete, skippered by Tom Weber, and with two 3rd place finishes, tied Vayu in overall points but lost the “peanut dish” on the tie-breaker as Vayu’s best race of 2nd beat their 3rd place best finish position. (more...)


Waukegan 2007

DAS BOOT DOES WELL

OTHERS ARE INCONSISTENT40.7 section just after Saturday's start

(Sunday, June 24, 2007) On another weekend of racing in mostly light-air, the races to and from Waukegan this weekend saw consistency only from Jay Muller's Das Boot with their 1st place on Saturday and 2nd place on Sunday. The rest of the fleet of nine Beneteau 40.7's was stacked up in points totaling within 3 of each other. Other than the Boot, boats that did well on Saturday fared not so well on Sunday. Jim McDonnell's Spanker, which came in last place on Saturday finished 1st on Sunday. Turning Point under skipper Bill Bartz returned their 2nd place finish on Saturday with an 8th place on Sunday and Ron Buzil's Vayu, 8th on Saturday, finished in the money on Sunday with 3rd place. BARRACUDA SURVIVES LAST SECOND PROTEST PENALTY TO WIN 40.7 NA CROWN

(40.7 fleet rounds the windward mark of the first raceSunday, June 17, 2007) "Fantastic fleet, fantastic regatta, can't wait for the next opportunity to be out there!" Those were the words of Barracuda's bowman, Matt Reid, as he summed up his experience on the just concluded Chicago NOOD Regatta and the Beneteau 40.7 North American Championship. It was Matt's boat, Barracuda, skippered by Steve Pelke, that emerged as the fleet winner on Sunday, after five races in three days in mostly 5 knots of wind or less. Tsunami Pulls Off Victory in Race 5

Barracuda and Das Boot(Sunday, June 10, 2007) Over the weekend of June 9-10th the newly renamed Columbia Yacht Club Colors Regatta saw a turnout for the Chicago Beneteau 40.7 Fleet that tied the record number of participating boats at ten. Going into the fifth and last race on Sunday afternoon, Collaboration 2, skippered by Bob Vickery, had 12 points and a three-point lead over both 2nd place Das Boot and 3rd place Turning Point which was skippered by Dave Hardy. Olympic Cup Regatta

The parking lot at the finish line(Sunday, May 27, 2007) A missing mark, no wind, race abandoned B take your pick. All of these happened to the first Beneteau 40.7 race that was supposed to count for the 2007 season series. On the positive side the fleet made a strong showing for the Olympic Cup Regatta with ten boats on the starting line. (more)

La TEMPETE WINS SEASON FINALE with 2 + 2 = 1

La Tempete and Das Boot battle downwind
[Saturday, September 16, 2006. Chicago] With her usual excellent consistency, Tom Weber’s La Tempete won Chicago Yacht Club’s Sheldon Clark Regatta by finishing 2nd place in both of the event’s races.
